Description

Maxim Integrated MAX1232EWE+ Microprocessor Monitor

The MAX1232EWE+ from Maxim Integrated is a sophisticated microprocessor (µP) supervisory circuit designed to monitor power supplies and µP activity in digital systems. It provides excellent circuit reliability and low cost by eliminating external components and adjustments when used in conjunction with +5V-powered µPs.

This device features a combination of functions that make it ideal for microprocessor system monitoring. It includes a precision voltage monitor with a factory-set reset threshold of 4.65V, ensuring your system operates within the correct voltage range. If the supply voltage drops below this preset threshold, the MAX1232EWE+ generates a reset signal, which holds the microprocessor in a reset state for a minimum of 140ms after the supply voltage returns above the threshold. This reset timeout ensures that the µP starts up in a known state every time.

Additionally, the MAX1232EWE+ incorporates a watchdog timer that must be periodically cleared by the correct operation of the µP. If the µP fails to clear the watchdog timer within 1.6 seconds, the device assumes that the µP is not functioning correctly and issues a reset signal to restart the system.

The MAX1232EWE+ also features a manual reset input that allows for an external pushbutton or logic signal to initiate a system reset. This provides a convenient way for users to manually reset the system without cycling the power. The device is housed in a 16-pin wide SO package, which is easy to integrate into a variety of digital systems.

With its wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, the MAX1232EWE+ is suitable for use in harsh environments. Its low power consumption and high reliability make it an excellent choice for portable devices, computers, controllers, and other critical µP-based applications where system integrity is paramount.
