Maxim Integrated's MAX695CWE-T: A Robust Microprocessor Supervisory Circuit

The MAX695CWE-T from Maxim Integrated is a highly reliable microprocessor (µP) supervisory circuit designed to maintain system integrity during power failures or unexpected events. This precision device is essential for systems that require a dependable watchdog and reset mechanism for their microprocessors or digital systems.

Engineered to monitor power supplies in µP and digital systems, the MAX695CWE-T provides excellent circuit reliability and low cost by eliminating external components and adjustments when used in battery-powered memory holdover applications. It is the ideal solution for controllers, intelligent instruments, and critical µP power monitoring, where consistent and accurate monitoring is non-negotiable.

This supervisory circuit features a combination of functions such as reset output during power-up, power-down, and brownout conditions. The reset signal remains asserted until the VCC supply voltage reaches the reset threshold level and maintains it for approximately 200ms after VCC has risen above the reset threshold, ensuring a proper system reset. The reset threshold can be factory preset to a voltage ranging from 2.5V to 4.75V in 100mV increments, accommodating a variety of microprocessor requirements.

The MAX695CWE-T also includes a watchdog timer that can be set by an external capacitor to provide a versatile timing range. This ensures that if the µP or system becomes unresponsive or deviates from its expected operation, the watchdog timer will trigger a system reset. Additionally, the circuit offers a manual reset input that enables a reset to be initiated with an external pushbutton or logic signal.

Available in a 16-pin Wide SO package, the MAX695CWE-T operates over an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for a wide array of industrial and commercial applications. With its low supply current of only 40µA (typical), it is an energy-efficient choice for portable and low-power systems.
