The LTC3407EMSE#PBF is a high-performance, dual-channel, synchronous step-down regulator from Linear Technology, designed to deliver efficient power management and conversion for various applications. This regulator operates at a switching frequency of 1.5MHz, allowing the use of small surface mount inductors and capacitors, which saves space and reduces noise, making it ideal for portable, space-constrained applications.

This regulator features two independent output channels that can deliver up to 600mA of continuous output current per channel. The wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V makes it versatile for different power supply configurations, including single-cell Li-Ion, multi-cell alkaline, or NiMH batteries, as well as 3.3V or 5V input rails.

The LTC3407EMSE#PBF utilizes internal switches with low R<sub>DS(ON) to achieve efficiencies up to 95%. This high efficiency, combined with a low quiescent current of only 20µA per channel in operation, extends battery life in portable devices. Furthermore, the device features a Burst Mode® operation that reduces quiescent current to just 1.5µA during light load conditions, further conserving power.

To protect against overcurrent conditions, the LTC3407EMSE#PBF incorporates internal cycle-by-cycle current limit and has thermal shutdown capability to safeguard the device and the system under extreme conditions. The regulator also offers selectable modes for optimizing efficiency based on load conditions, with the option to choose between Burst Mode operation for highest efficiency at light loads and forced continuous mode for lowest noise operation.

The LTC3407EMSE#PBF is packaged in a compact 10-lead MSOP with a thermally enhanced exposed pad, which allows for efficient heat dissipation and improved thermal performance. This makes it suitable for thermally challenging environments without compromising on power density or performance.

With its combination of dual outputs, high efficiency, low quiescent current, and compact size, the LTC3407EMSE#PBF is an excellent power management solution for portable devices, including PDAs, smartphones, digital cameras, and other battery-powered electronics that require efficient, dual-channel power supply regulation.
