Maxim Integrated MAX706 Microprocessor Supervisory Circuit
The Maxim Integrated MAX706 is a highly reliable microprocessor (µP) supervisory circuit designed to monitor power supplies and microprocessor activity in digital systems. It provides excellent circuit reliability and low cost by eliminating external components and adjustments when used with +5V-powered circuits.
This robust device incorporates a variety of features to ensure system stability under fault conditions. It includes a reset output during power-up, power-down, and brownout conditions. The reset output remains operational with VCC as low as 1V. The MAX706 also has a 1.25V threshold detector for power-fail warning, low-battery detection, or to monitor a power supply other than +5V.
The MAX706 comes with a manual push-button reset input which allows for a very convenient system reset. This can be a critical feature during system debugging and testing, as well as for providing a user-initiated reset without the need to cycle the power.
Additional features include a 200ms reset pulse width which ensures proper system reset, a watchdog timer with a 1.6s timeout that can be disabled if not required, and a write-protect output for EEPROM, battery-backed RAM, or other memory.
Key specifications of the MAX706 include:
- Voltage Monitoring Range: 4.65V to 5.5V
- Operating Temperature Range: 0°C to +70°C
- Supply Current: 17µA (typical)
- Reset Active Low Output
- Watchdog Timer
- Power-Fail Input / Low-Battery Input
- Manual Reset Input
The MAX706 is available in a variety of packages including the 8-pin SO and the 8-pin µMAX. This device is ideal for use in computers, controllers, intelligent instruments, critical µP power monitoring, and portable/battery-powered equipment.
Maxim Integrated's commitment to quality and innovation ensures that the MAX706 supervisory circuit is a reliable choice for maintaining the integrity and performance of your digital systems.
