The MAX13084EASA is a high-performance, half-duplex transceiver from Maxim Integrated, designed for RS-485 and RS-422 communication applications. This device is particularly suitable for long-distance and high-speed data transmission over twisted-pair or parallel-wire networks, commonly found in industrial environments, telecommunications, and networked control systems.

Featuring a wide 3.3V to 5V supply voltage range and a robust driver output capable of delivering data rates up to 16Mbps, the MAX13084EASA ensures reliable communication in demanding applications. Its fail-safe receiver inputs provide a known state if inputs are open, shorted, or idle, which significantly enhances the system's reliability.

The transceiver integrates a slew-rate-limited driver that minimizes electromagnetic interference (EMI) and reduces reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, enabling error-free data transmission. It also supports hot-swap capability, allowing nodes to be inserted or removed from the network without causing a disruption in the communication bus.

The MAX13084EASA's thermal shutdown feature protects the device from damage due to excessive power dissipation by disabling the driver outputs when the junction temperature exceeds the thermal shutdown threshold. Additionally, it includes a receiver/driver enable function, allowing the user to disable the driver and receiver independently, which is useful for multipoint applications.

This transceiver is available in an 8-pin NSOIC package and operates over the extended -40°C to +85°C temperature range.
